Dermaplaning is a rejuvenating treatment that can reveal softer, smoother, and healthier-looking skin. We offer dermaplaning (and other exfoliating treatments) right here in our medical spa in Draper, Utah. Want to know more about dermaplaning at La Belle Vie? Keep reading for all the details on this highly effective facial exfoliator.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a type of facial exfoliating treatment that removes all the dirt, dead skin, and vellus hair (also known as “peach fuzz”) from your face. Rather than using a scrub or mitt like an at-home exfoliating session, dermaplaning uses a small sterilized scalpel to scrape and shave your face. By moving the scalpel back and forth across your face, your esthetician will scrape off the top layer of dead skin.
What Are The Benefits of Dermaplaning?
The benefits of dermaplaning are striking and virtually instantaneous. Once the dead skin and dirt are scraped off your face, your skin will immediately appear smoother and brighter! Additionally, your skin will be silky soft with less textured to the touch. With dermaplaning, our aestheticians can improve a variety of skin issues. Some of these include:
- Reduces hyperpigmentation
- Hides fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves blotchy and uneven skin tone
- Removes “fuzzy hairs”
- Minimizes pores
- Sweeps away dirt and dead skin cells
- Brightens and refreshes skin instantly
- Reduces the appearance of acne scars
- Causes other skincare products to be more effective
- Helps makeup glide on smoothly and look fantastic
- Rejuvenates and brightens dull skin

Is Dermaplaning Safe?
Dermaplaning is incredibly safe; many people even do it at home with their own scalpels or dermaplaning tools. However, it is much better to have the procedure done by a professional esthetician. Most people have no irritation after dermaplaning. That’s because it only takes off the top layer of dead skin. The blade does not actually penetrate the skin or go underneath it. Instead, it just skims the very surface of the face.
In terms of safety, it’s one of the safest aesthetic treatments available.
Avoid exfoliating for at least three days before your appointment, and stay out of direct sunlight. You should also forego tanning.
How Much Does Dermaplaning Cost?
At La Belle Vie, three dermaplaning sessions cost $199. However, we run frequent monthly specials that can significantly reduce the price of dermaplaning. This is an excellent way to try dermaplaning if you’ve been curious.
We also offer financing and a membership program. Our clients love dermaplaning, and most return for repeat treatments throughout the year!
How Long Does Dermaplaning Take?
The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes to complete, and it’s pretty straightforward. Your clinician won’t need to spend any time explaining the precautions since there are none. And there’s also no downtime involved. The only caution is to wear sunscreen following the procedure. Once your treatment is finished, you can continue with your day!
What Should I Expect During My Dermaplaning Appointment?
During the appointment, your esthetician will explain what they will do and the tool they will be using. Then, they will scrape off the dead skin and dirt, working slowly around your entire face. Finally, they may finish the appointment by exfoliating your skin or applying sunscreen, or they may not use anything.
What Should I Expect After My Dermaplaning Appointment?
After your appointment, your skin will immediately look and feel brighter, smoother, and less textured than when you entered the spa. While it may be slightly red, swollen, irritated, or sore following your appointment, these side effects will be brief.
Your skin may be somewhat more sensitive following the procedure, so experts recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. Additionally, you should moisturize your face frequently.
Who Should Get Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning won’t eliminate all of your acne scars, nor will it stop aging. However, most people can safely partake in dermaplaning without any adverse effects.
Some people should not get dermaplaning procedures, though, such as those who have had serious skin issues in the past or are on certain medications. For example, if you have severe acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, or you currently have a sunburn, don’t get a dermaplaning procedure. Also, if you take an acne medication like Isotretinoin, you should be off it for at least six months before trying dermaplaning.
How Long Does Dermaplaning Last?
Dermaplaning can be done every three to four weeks. However, it is a supplementary procedure, similar to a facial. It will not cure your skin nor eliminate permanent issues. If you have severe skin concerns, you should consult a dermatologist. If you have dermaplaning done professionally, don’t try doing it on your own between appointments to avoid irritating your skin.
Should I Get Dermaplaning?
If you want to indulge in a relaxing facial treatment, you should absolutely try dermaplaning! Dermaplaning has virtually no risks involved, so it’s an excellent procedure to try for those who are new to facials and aesthetics. As long as you don’t have any active skin conditions, dermaplaning will likely give your skin significant visual improvements!
