Can You Reverse Aging Skin?

Can You Really Turn Back the Clock and Reverse Aging Skin?

It’s inevitable. You’re going to get older. Depending on your lifestyle and genetics, your skin will start to show signs of aging one way or another. But can you reverse some of those effects and rejuvenate your appearance? Fortunately, there are many steps you can take to slow down and even transform your complexion to its youthful brilliance. In this post, we’ll tell you how.

What Causes Your Skin To Look Older?

Several factors play a role in how your face (and other parts of your body) look as you grow older. While some people are born with great genes and never seem to look a day older, the rest of us usually have to work a little harder to maintain our youthful looks.

As we mature, we start to lose collagen and elastin, which causes our skin to get looser and sag. As a result, we begin to see the telltale lines and wrinkles that give our age away. Additionally, the loss of facial fat can contribute to a sunken or sagging appearance.

On top of that, the sun plays some cruel tricks on how we age. UV damage from years past can do a number on our skin’s cells and break down elastin even more. This same damage can cause fine lines, age spots, and other signs of wear.

Even lifestyle factors can play a part. For example, if you don’t drink enough water, your skin can show more signs of aging than those who stay well-hydrated. And everyone knows that smoking can cause fine lines around the mouth and eyes and a dull and sallow complexion. But there are other contributors to premature aging as well, including:

Too Much Alcohol: That extra glass of wine with dinner could be making you look older. Alcohol is dehydrating and can result in additional skin damage over time.

Poor Nutrition: Not eating enough healthy and nourishing foods can be a factor since your body needs an adequate intake of vitamins and antioxidants to regenerate your skin cells.

Stress: This one is pretty obvious. When we are burned out and stressed, it shows on our faces. Chronic stress can cause disruption to the epidermal barrier, resulting in acne, premature wrinkles, and other beauty problems.

Lack of Sleep: There’s a reason why women used to proclaim, “I need my beauty sleep!” Lack of sleep can cause uneven skin tone, droopy eyelids, dark circles, puffiness, and all of the things you’re trying to avoid when you want a fresh and youthful appearance.

How Can I Combat the Signs of Aging?

Obviously, there are some things you can’t change, like the passage of time. But there are many things you can control—avoiding the sun, staying hydrating, wearing sunscreen, eating well, getting enough sleep, and so forth.

But What if the Damage Is Already Done? Is There Any Hope?

The answer is, “Absolutely!” In fact, at La Belle Vie, we see clients with these same concerns every day. Many of our first-time patients come to us in agony over their aging appearance. And it’s a great delight to be able to offer them an abundance of treatment options for facial rejuvenation. In many cases, they didn’t even know these cutting-edge procedures existed.

No matter how old you are or where you’re at in your skincare journey, there are plenty of noninvasive and highly effective treatments to help you look your best. Let’s look at some of the most popular procedures aimed at turning back the clock on aging.

Chemical Peels
Bring On a Youthful Glow

While the name “chemical peels” sounds harsh and even a little scary, they are actually quite gentle. And depending on your goals, they may be just the thing to help bring out a glowing, brighter, and softer complexion. Chemical peels are exfoliating and can help to:

  • Treat fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging and sun damage
  • Reduce dark patches (melasma) and age spots
  • Improve the appearance of scars
  • Renew your skin’s luster and texture

Dysport or Botox
Erase Expression Lines and Crow’s Feet

Dysport and Botox are two convenient and noninvasive injectable treatments that can help treat and prevent fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles underneath them. This treatment is especially effective for crow’s feet, frown lines, or the “eleven” lines that form between your eyebrows (also called glabellar lines.)

Our expert injectors can perform this procedure quickly and painlessly, and you’ll generally notice results within three to five days.

Dermal Fillers
Rid Yourself of Deep Wrinkles

Although dermal fillers also work for fine lines, they are very effective for deeper wrinkles. In less than 30 minutes, an experienced technician can fill your most troublesome furrows and creases with results that can last anywhere from four months to over a year.

Unlike Botox or Dysport injections, dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Belotero® actually fill in the wrinkles with a substance that plumps up the area, making them virtually disappear. Some can even increase the overall volume of your face, causing it to appear fuller and less hollow.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation
Rejuvenate Your Appearance

Laser Skin Rejuvenation at La Belle Vie involves advanced new laser technologies that can treat issues at a deeper level in your skin. Laser rejuvenation is an excellent option if you have discolorations or wrinkles that dont respond to other treatments. We have two laser technologies we use to treat signs of aging:

  • IPL Photofacial
This 30-minute procedure treats pigmentation issues and blemishes with intense pulses of light.
  • C02 Laser Treatment
C02 Laser Treatment (also called Fraxel laser treatment) is designed to reduce lines, scars, and deep wrinkles. Plus, it can help restore your skin’s texture, tone, and smoothness to help you appear younger.

Microneedling
Help Your Body Produce More Collagen

As we already discussed, aging reduces the amount of collagen your body produces, resulting in sagging and dry skin that loses its youthful appearance.

Microneedling is a procedure that involves tiny, sterile needles that prick the skin. As a result of this micro-trauma, your skin will ramp up its production of collagen naturally to heal the wounding. Microneedling can help with many skin issues, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduced elasticity

Microneedling takes a bit longer than the other treatments we’ve discussed. You’ll typically need between three to five sessions spaced four weeks apart. However, the treatment is highly effective and dramatically improves the look of wrinkles and imperfections.

Closing Thoughts

While we can’t stop the aging process, there are many ways to take control and slow it down a bit, including using sunscreen, staying hydrated, and taking better care of our bodies.
However, even when practicing good habits and living a healthy lifestyle, signs of aging can appear that can make you feel unhappy with your appearance and long for a younger-looking complexion.

At La Belle Vie, we specialize in helping each of our clients to become the best version of themselves they can be. We have many solutions at our medical spa in Draper, Utah, to help put the brakes on aging and rejuvenate your appearance. Chemical peels, injectables, dermal fillers, laser treatments, and microneedling are just the tip of the iceberg. And don’t forget, you can save on these and many other aesthetic treatments by checking out our specials each month!
