SCLEROTHERAPY IN DRAPER, UTAH
The Standard Treatment for Leg Spider Veins
A short in-office injection series that collapses and seals surface veins so the body can reabsorb them — with honest routing if the real problem is deeper.
HOW SCLEROTHERAPY WORKS
Spider veins are dilated surface vessels, and they are extremely common — particularly in women, after pregnancy, and in anyone who spends long hours standing. Sclerotherapy treats them directly: a sclerosing solution is injected into the vessel, irritating the vessel wall so it collapses and seals. Blood reroutes through healthier vessels immediately, and the treated vein is gradually reabsorbed over the following weeks.
It is a straightforward treatment. Sessions are short, the needles are very fine, and most patients describe a mild stinging that passes quickly. Several sessions are usually needed because the veins are treated in stages and because results are judged over weeks rather than immediately. Compression is part of aftercare and it genuinely affects the outcome, so we will explain exactly what we want you to do and for how long.
The part that matters clinically is what sits underneath. Surface spider veins are sometimes isolated and cosmetic; sometimes they are the visible signal of venous insufficiency in the deeper system. Treating the surface repeatedly while an underlying problem drives new vessels is a frustrating and expensive loop. If your history — aching, heaviness, swelling, a pattern of recurrence — suggests insufficiency, we will send you for a vascular assessment before treating rather than after.
Expect improvement rather than perfection. Treated vessels clear well, but new ones can develop over time, particularly if the contributing factors are still there. Many patients return periodically, and we will give you a realistic picture of that at the consultation.

Common questions
SCLEROTHERAPY QUESTIONS
Before treating leg veins
Usually more than one. Veins are treated in stages and results are judged over weeks. Your specific plan depends on the extent of the pattern and is given to you at consultation.
Most patients describe a mild stinging that passes quickly. The needles used are very fine and the sessions are short.
Not immediately. The treated vessel collapses at the time of injection but is reabsorbed over the following weeks. Assessment appointments are scheduled accordingly.
Treated vessels do not return, but new spider veins can develop over time, especially if contributing factors like prolonged standing or venous insufficiency remain. Periodic maintenance is common.
Compression is part of aftercare and it genuinely affects results. We will tell you exactly what to wear and for how long — it is not an optional extra.
That combination suggests the problem may be deeper than surface veins. In that case we will recommend a vascular assessment before treating, because sclerotherapy on the surface will not address venous insufficiency underneath.
