IPL PHOTOFACIAL IN DRAPER, UTAH
For Sun Damage, Age Spots and Redness
Intense pulsed light targeting the pigment and vascular damage that Utah altitude and 200-plus sunny days a year leave behind — on the face, neck, chest and hands.
THE RIGHT TOOL FOR PIGMENT AND REDNESS
Skin damage falls into broad categories, and matching the tool to the category is most of what determines whether a treatment works. Texture — crepiness, fine lines, scarring — is a collagen problem and needs resurfacing or needling. Pigment and vascular concerns are different: brown spots, freckling, diffuse discoloration, facial redness, and broken capillaries respond to light energy absorbed selectively by melanin and hemoglobin. That is what intense pulsed light does.
Utah produces an unusual amount of both. At roughly 5,000 feet, UV intensity is materially higher than at sea level, and the valley averages well over 200 sunny days a year in a culture built around being outside. The result is a population whose skin shows pigment damage earlier and more diffusely than the national average — and hands, chest, and neck usually show it before the face does, because those are the areas people forget to protect.
IPL is delivered on our Harmony XL platform across a short series. After treatment, pigmented lesions typically darken before they lift and flake away over the following days — expected, and part of how it works. Vascular concerns fade more gradually. Most patients are comfortable in public throughout, which makes IPL one of the easier treatments to fit into a normal schedule, though it is still best scheduled through autumn and winter when sun exposure is easier to control.
One clinical point that matters more than anything cosmetic: we do not treat lesions we are not confident about. Kelly has more than thirty years of clinical medicine behind her, and part of every IPL consultation is looking properly at what is actually on your skin. Anything with concerning features gets referred for evaluation rather than treated. A pigmented lesion that should have been biopsied is not something to remove with light.

Common questions
IPL PHOTOFACIAL QUESTIONS
What patients ask about age spots and redness
That is expected and it is how IPL works. Treated pigment darkens as it rises toward the surface, then flakes away over the following days. Written aftercare explains the timeline so nothing about it is a surprise.
IPL is delivered as a short series because pigment and vascular clearance are progressive. Your session count depends on the extent of damage, and you will be given it with pricing at consultation.
Only indirectly. IPL targets pigment and blood vessels, not collagen. For texture, fine lines and scarring you want resurfacing, microneedling, or Profound RF. Many patients end up combining an IPL series with one of those.
No — IPL carries greater risk in darker skin tones because it targets melanin. Your skin type is assessed individually at consultation and if IPL is not appropriate for you we will recommend a different route rather than treating anyway.
Yes, and they are among the most requested areas. Hands, chest and neck typically show sun damage before the face because they are the areas people most often forget to protect.
Bring it up at your consultation. Anything with concerning features is referred for proper evaluation rather than treated. Removing a lesion with light that should have been examined is not something we are willing to do.
