WHY PROFOUND IS DIFFERENT FROM STANDARD MICRONEEDLING

Standard microneedling creates mechanical micro-injuries at the skin surface and relies on the healing response to build collagen. It works well for texture and tone maintenance. Profound adds a second variable: radiofrequency energy delivered through insulated needles at a specific depth, with real-time temperature monitoring. That means the thermal injury is placed precisely in the dermis, at a temperature range associated with both collagen and elastin production — and elastin is what most tightening treatments cannot touch.

The practical result is that Profound addresses laxity rather than just texture. The most common indication we treat is the lower face and jawline: the softening of definition that starts in the forties and that neither filler nor neuromodulator genuinely fixes. The second common indication is atrophic acne scarring, where controlled dermal remodeling can improve scar depth and the surrounding texture at the same time.

Because the energy is delivered at depth, the treatment is performed under local anesthetic rather than topical numbing alone, and there is a recovery period involving swelling and often bruising. We describe that honestly at consultation — it typically means planning around a stretch of time where you would rather not be photographed.
